What a Langhe retreat actually feels like
A retreat in the Langhe is not a hotel break and it is not a city escape. It is a slower thing. You arrive on a quiet road that curls between vineyards. The last village is already a few kilometres behind you. The light changes. The temperature drops a little. The phone signal thins out — but Starlink WiFi is waiting for you at the house, so the disconnection is your choice, not an accident.
Villa Sorì sits above Cessole, in Alta Langa, the highest and least travelled corner of the Langhe wine region. The closest neighbour is a vineyard. The closest sound is the wind moving through the rows. From the terrace you can see four valleys, a handful of stone hamlets, and — on clear evenings — the Maritime Alps in the distance.
This is what a real Langhe retreat looks like: no front desk, no breakfast bell, no shared corridors. Just a private stone house, a private garden of three thousand square metres, a private sauna and an outdoor hot tub. The whole property is yours.
Where Villa Sorì sits in the Langhe
The Langhe is a region of hills southeast of Turin, in the Italian region of Piedmont. It is famous for Barolo, Barbaresco and Moscato d'Asti — three wines that gave the area its UNESCO World Heritage listing in 2014. Most travellers stay near Alba or La Morra and never see the upper hills.
Cessole sits in Alta Langa, the wilder, higher half. Forests instead of just vines. Slower roads. Fewer tour buses. From Villa Sorì, Barolo is fifty minutes by car, Alba is fifty minutes, Asti is forty, and the Ligurian coast is just over an hour. It is the rare corner of Italy that is both deeply rural and within easy reach of three major airports.
For travellers from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland or the UK, the practical route is Turin Caselle (1h40m), Milan Malpensa (2h) or Milan Linate (1h50m). Direct flights are short. The drive in is the moment your stay begins.
The house itself
Villa Sorì is one hundred and seventy square metres over two floors, restored with respect for what it already was: a Piedmontese farmhouse in stone and wood. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a generous living room around an open fireplace, an open kitchen looking out at the hills.
The terrace is the centre of gravity. It runs the length of the house and opens onto the garden, the hot tub, and the vineyards beyond. In summer breakfast happens here. In autumn lunch. In winter, an aperitivo at sunset before the cold pushes you back inside, toward the fire.
Six guests sleep comfortably — two in each bedroom and two more in the living room sofa bed for families or two travelling couples. The kitchen is fully fitted (American fridge, dishwasher, oven, induction hob, espresso machine). Outside there is a wood-and-charcoal barbecue and a long stone table.
Wellness, on your own terms
A real retreat needs a body, not just a mind, and Villa Sorì is built around private wellbeing. The sauna is a wood-clad cabin you heat in the late afternoon and step into before dinner. The outdoor hot tub sits under open sky, the vineyards on one side, the hills on the other. No queue, no schedule, no booking slot — you decide when to start it.
Around the property there are walking paths through the vines that you can follow without seeing another person. Mountain bikes can be arranged. In late spring and summer the local rivers and natural pools are a half-hour drive. Yoga teachers, massage therapists and personal trainers can come to the house on request.
Who Villa Sorì is for
Couples in search of quiet. Two couples travelling together who want a real house, not two hotel rooms. Small families with older children. Founders, writers, creative directors who want a working week away from the office without losing connectivity. Friends planning a wine weekend.
Villa Sorì is not the right address for very large groups, parties, weddings or events. The retreat works because the property stays calm — that is the whole point of the place.
How to plan your Langhe retreat
Minimum stay is three nights; most guests stay four to seven. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to mid-November) are the most beautiful seasons — vineyards greening up, then turning to amber and copper. Summer is warm and quiet. Winter is the secret season: low light, fireplace, sauna, truffle.
Booking is direct. We reply to every request within twenty-four hours. There are no platform fees and no service charges, and we are happy to help you plan the rest — winery visits, restaurant reservations, a private chef for one evening, a truffle hunt in autumn.
