Why Piedmont for a romantic getaway
Romance asks for two things from a destination: privacy and beauty. Piedmont gives both with very little effort. The Langhe — its southern wine country — is one of the most cinematic landscapes in Europe and remains, surprisingly, far less crowded than Tuscany or the Amalfi coast.
Villa Sorì sits in Alta Langa, the upper, quieter half of the region. From the terrace you can watch the sun set behind four overlapping ridges of vineyard. In autumn the colour goes copper and red. In late spring the air smells of acacia. In winter the fog sits in the valleys and the hilltops rise above it like islands.
The setting
Villa Sorì is a private stone farmhouse, entirely yours for the duration of your stay. The master bedroom looks straight onto the vineyards. The bathroom has a deep tub. The living room has an open fireplace. The terrace has a daybed, a long teak table, and a view that you keep checking, just to confirm.
Outside, the hot tub sits on the deck under open sky. The sauna is a quiet wood cabin you heat in the afternoon. The garden goes down toward the vines and ends in a small clearing — a good place for a glass of champagne at sunset.
A two-night romantic itinerary
Arrival in the late afternoon. We have a bottle of Alta Langa sparkling waiting (the local champagne-method, made within ten kilometres of the house). Sunset on the terrace. Dinner at one of three trattorias in the next village — we book on your behalf.
Day one: slow morning, vineyard walk before lunch, an afternoon visit to a Barolo or Barbaresco cellar (45 minutes by car), back to the house for a sauna, then dinner cooked by a chef at Villa Sorì if you'd like — a four-course Langhe menu paired with the wines you chose that afternoon.
Day two: a longer breakfast, a drive up to one of the high villages (Bossolasco, Murazzano), lunch in a panoramic restaurant, an afternoon at the hot tub, and a final sunset. Most guests stay a third night because two isn't enough.
Special occasions
Honeymoons, anniversaries, proposals, milestone birthdays — we arrange them quietly. Tell us in your enquiry what you have in mind. We can organise flowers, a private chef, a violin player at sunset, a photographer for a discreet shoot in the vineyards, transfers from the airport. None of this is on the website; that's intentional.
What we don't do: large surprise parties, very loud setups, anything that compromises the house's calm or the neighbours' quiet.
Practical: how long, what season
Minimum stay is three nights. The most romantic seasons are late April to mid-June (acacia, green vines, long evenings) and mid-September to mid-November (harvest light, truffle, vineyards turning amber). Winter is a different romance: fog, fire, sauna, snow on the distant Alps.
Couples-only stays are welcome; the house is larger than two people need, which is part of the point.
